40th AnniversaryESTABLISHED 1979

In 1979, when Hong Kong had only a handful of places offering Japanese Teppanyaki, MATSUBISHI opened on Jaffe Road with one mission: to introduce the city to the theatre of the iron plate.

The shutter clicks. A moment frozen in time. Before the skyline views, there was just the fire, the chef, and the first guests witnessing the unknown art of Teppanyaki.

THE 80s

The name MATSUBISHI originated from a Japanese Family Crest, otherwise known as Ka-Mon in Japanese. Each family crest is a symbol or an emblem of a family, as well as the evidence of family blood, roots and self-identity. "MATSU" defines pine tree while "BISHI" characterize the rhombus shape of a quadrilateral. Our MATSUBISHI logo portrays two pine tree leaves forming a rhombus with a flower, symbolizing MATSUBISHI and its patron as one. MATSUBISHI's dream is to bring the ultimate dining experience to our patrons, and this is achieved with our continued excellence in maintaining our authentic tastes and premium quality.

THE STAGE OF IRON

In 1989, we moved to the Convention Plaza. The backdrop changed to the Victoria Harbour skyline, but our stage remained the Teppan. A circular theatre where the chef is the performer, and the ingredients are the stars.
